Avoid the Tsunami, run for the hills...

by mrfukuto at Citysearch

This place is horrible. Ok, I've been to worse. Seated promptly but the wait for the food felt like eternity (avoid lunch time). Over priced and low quality. This place was more interested in looks than quality of food. I just moved from the Northwest, I hope there are better Japanese restaurants in Tulsa, if not, I may be moving back sooner that anticipated!

  • Pros: Free parking?
  • Cons: Location and price

The worst sushi place ever

by sushiforall at Citysearch

This restaurant is the worst Japanese restaurant in Tulsa. The service is bad and the wait is forever even when they are not busy. When we went there, several customers were waiting for their food and were very unhappy with how long it was taking for the food. We sat for a while hoping for someone to take our order. After 30 minutes, they came with our hot tea that was served in a sake cups (this is only use for sake in Japan never seen this anywhere in the United States). At first we thought it was cute until you get tired of pouring your tea in little shot cups. We waited over an hour and we still did not get our basic sushi order (sliced tuna on rice .. how hard can that be). We will never visit this restaurant again and we don't recommend this on anyone. This is really the worst restaurant ever.

Best Seafood Quality in Town by Dr. Fish Seafood Company

by drfishseafoodcompany at Citysearch

As a seafood company I shouldn't write for the restaurant we deliver too. Even though I see that Tsunami has a high rating one of the recent reviews show that the quality was not that great. I wanted to get this straight for everyone because Tsunami owner and their employees are very nice hard working people. My name is David Kim, Purchasing Director for Dr. Fish, Inc. a Seafood company located in Dallas, TX. I am responsible for ordering seafood from worldwide for my company. I have to guarantee to my company that I am purchasing one of the best products at the best price in order for our sales team to offer the same. There are other seafood companies out there who will use cheaper quality to save themselves and make a bigger profit. Tsunami is our loyal customer and I guarantee you that they use one of the best quality out there. Visit our website for more information. w w w drfishinc dot com Thank you for reading guys!

  • Pros: Great Quality Available from the World
  • Cons: The Seafood is too fresh!

Tsunami Sushi

by iheartlamps at Citysearch

Live in LA, came back to visit family. Heard this was the best place to get sushi in tulsa so I headed downtown. Had a $70 bill for 5 rolls of quarters. Sushi is tiny, it took an hour to arrive, atmosphere is terrible, and the taste was crap...I've had better sushi at a chinese buffet.

  • Pros: Trendy look? maybe
  • Cons: It sux out loud

mediacore sushi, poor service, poor mgmt

by sodapop19 at Citysearch

Been here before, won't go again. We were the first group (5 people) for a friday lunch and arrived at 11:30am. One of our guests hadn't arrived yet so our waitress assumed we didn't want to order and never bothered to ask. Once our final guest arrived, she took our order at 11:45. Apparently the waitress held on to the order and turned it in after noon (we were told the order wasn't turned in until after noon by the owner). We were one of the last groups to get our food @ almost 1pm. One of our guests had to leave before they could eat.

The owner lectured us that we should expect this slow of service on a friday at a sushi bar and offered a 25% discount afer being offered 75% by the manager, which didn't happen.

We eat sushi regularly during our lunch HOUR and never get this slow/poor service at any other sushi establishment. This was a special trip dowtown as we hadn't eaten at Tsunami in a while. Poor management and slow staff. Appreantly he's never considered hiring more cooks.

While we we waiting for our food we had other customers telling us of similar experiences and told us they had received fully comp'd meals and additional gift certificates. 25% was a joke and an insult. The lecture was the biggest insult. I would expect the owner and the manager to handle themselves more professionally and more courteously. I refuse to give either of the any more of my money and if we had known we were going to pay for 75% of the ticket, we would have left before the food was brought out. It wasn't worth the time, the furstration, or the wait.

  • Pros: medcore sushi
  • Cons: incredibly slow, pricey, poor mgmt/owner

SHOCKED THAT PEOPLE LIKE THIS!!!

by siestadude at Citysearch

Have you people ever eaten at a quality sushit place?? I was visiting from L.A. and people took me to this place. I was stunned! Tasteless, no creativity, slow service, small rolls and expensive. The fish wasn't even fresh, it was frozen! Now, I have had sushi from coast to coast (from NY to ATL, Chicago to L.A.)...this is the worst sushi ever! I even went back the following day at lunch just to make sure (yes, I am a glutton for pain). I was right the first time. Sorry, people of Tulsa. I guess you have no idea what sushi is.

  • Cons: everything.

Great Service

by newkid at Citysearch

As I did not pay or see the bill, I cannot comment on price, except to say that the payor said it was better than another place in town. I had the marlin and I thought it was excellent. Rice was cooked well and the Saki was warm. Atmosphere was top notch. Employees are very warm and inviting. I will eat there again!!

A Pleasure

by ijbok at Citysearch

I had dinner at Tsunamis a week ago for the first time with a group of 4 friends all from different states (MA, OH, CO, & OK) after the PGA. Every one raved about the sushi rolls, nigri, the sake' and the atmosphere and service. It is one of the best Japanese Resturants I have experienced. One of many I have had the pleasure to dine at in the US.

We dined on Tuna, Salmon, Octupus, Red Snapper, and salmon Roe Rolls; Diablo, spice tuna and shrimp, eel, and a Spider roll. Service was friendly and helpful. Upscale look and feel in a retro area of downtown.

I will be back for more and I recomend it to everyone.

Absolutely Horrendous!!!!

by kochi at Citysearch

I read the reviews on here and saw that there were mainly very good, so, I decided to go there with some friends. I wasn't expecting anything bad or atrocious, however, when my sushi rolls came, I was horrified. I was going to pay $50 for an eight inch plate of sushi? I don't think so. There was supposed to be 3 makimono rolls, but, looked more like rolls made for a Barbie doll. They really were very small. Probably about an inch wide by about a quarter of an inch thick. Terrible. To add insult to injury, they tasted awful as well. What a waste of money. If you want sushi in Tulsa, goto either Sushi Train on 51st and Harvard, or Memories of Japan on 2409 W Kenosha St, Broken Arrow, or the Fuji's at Brookside (avoid the 71st location, not very good). At the end of the day, DO NOT GOTO TSUNAMI SUSHI AT ANY OF THEIR LOCATIONS, THEY ARE AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pros: They have three locations in Tulsa
  • Cons: HIgh price for sushi that tastes bad!!

Nice atmosphere but poor value

by windswept28 at Citysearch

We visited for dinner before an event at the Performing Arts Center. The atmosphere is good, but like many other reviewers have said, the service is slow and the servers aren't very attentive. We arrived early in the evening (before the rush) and still had to wait 45 minutes after we ordered to receive our food--simple sushi rolls and some nigiri. The food had great flavor, but the portion sizes were incredibly small. The sushi rolls were about as big in diameter as a hot dog! These were definitely the smallest sushi rolls I have ever seen--from anywhere I've had sushi throughout the U.S.--and the prices were high considering what you received. It's a good place to check out the downtown scene, but better sushi can be found elsewhere in Tulsa. I doubt we'll be back.

  • Pros: Fun downtown atmosphere; close to PAC
  • Cons: Slow service, poor value
