Mexicali is a locally owned place. the only other store is in Florida, so if you are looking for a second location you might need a pass port. the food is not authentic because they have to accomidate to American tastes. If you really want authentic go to mexico because Taco Bueno isn't authentic either. they are fast powedered beans place only. Reservations at Mexicali are only for groups of 10-60 people. they dont take reservations on concert nights its a first come first serve but they put you on a wait :( and it can be forever to get a table. they reason....because OTHER people are still eating and we had to wait. so here is what i reccomend. get there early or eat in owasso or south tulsa but not in downtown. they will do the same...make you wait. i also over heard that the tips they get from customers are used to pay bills and feed kids. made me sad.
won't go back. I hate chicken enchiladas made with dark meat. GAG! Service wasn?t great either. Sauce was too hot. I?m sure there is something good about it?.but I?ll never know cause I don?t plan to return.
Avoid. Living literally across the street from this restaurant for 10 + years, I havedined here for lunch, dinner, drinks, appetizers and many other various dining times. I have tasted EVERYTHING on the menu. Nothing is great. Maybe mediocre at the absolute best. I have better food at Taco Bueno! The service has always been poor, with high turn over in the wait staff, which seems to be bothered to take my order. Bar service is minimal and inattentive, even when I am the only customer, which is quite often because few people frequent this location.
Good Tex-Mex at a reasonable price -- and it's LOCALLY OWNED!. Mexicalli Border Cafe was a favorite lunch spot for department lunches at my previous employer. The reason: Good food, a good selection, and reasonable prices. While the food is not totally authentic Mexican cuisine, it is tasty and arrives at your table piping hot. I haven't had one bad dish there. The service can be iffy -- while friendly, it can be slow. I don't recommend Mexicalli if you're in a hurry. The restaurant is conveniently located in Brady Village, and is great for dinner before events at the Performing Arts Center. Just make sure to leave PLENTY of time to compensate for the spotty service. Another plus is ample FREE parking.
Good Tex-Mex value.
One of the things I like about this place is that it's not a national chain. If you're looking for a good locally owned and operated Tex-Mex restaurant, try Mexicali. The chips and salsa are excellent and their fajitas are very good. Ask them to add some Portabella mushrooms if you want the absolute best experience.
Service can be somewhat spotty, but the food is pretty good overall.
Mexicalli Border Cafe. Try the Shrimp Alcupolco, it is absolutely fantastic!!! You can also get sauteed vegetables that will make this a low carb meal, again fantastic!!!
