WATCH OUT OWNER SKIP IS A PSYCHOPATH. While walking down the street in front of Does we encountered the owner, Skip Long who was foaming at the mouth and brandishing a glass peppershaker. We started to run, but he chased us in his car with a murderous glare in his eyes. We only barely escaped, and god knows what this killer would have done had he been able to catch up with us!
Terrible – I went there recently for a visit after reading he Urban Tulsa and I thought I would give this place a shot...worse mistake of my life! It looked like a nice establishment until we went inside, It looked like a garage sale with the decor.
The prices are $$$$ for Oklahoma. I do travel several places and ate at fine dining restaurants. The service and price is not sufficient for fine dining. The presentation is awful. The service was terrible, and I would never recommend anyone to go here if this was the last steakhouse on earth. This place gives steakhouses a bad name and actually encourages me to become a vegan just to avoid this place.
As for the owner Skip Long, he has completely lost his mind. This man needs to be taken away and locked away from people. Its frightening that this man is allowed to roam the streets at night, and day. We had a complaint and he just argued and defended his restaurant. He would not listen and kept insisting we buy more bottles of wine. Once I said no he continued to bother us to the point of leaving early. Whoever wrote that review in the Urban Tulsa must have gotten paid a large sum of money to write good things about this place.
Don't waste your time, or money. If you want the does experience I would suggest finding tacky furniture, lacquer up plywood and call it a table, a microwave, some meth looking addicts for your servers, and a crazy man just released from the psychiatric ward. You have been warned...
Imagine the Horror – I can't speak to the food, we were never served. I was recently married, and my company wanted to treat me and my wife out to a nice dinner as a gift. I called ahead and spoke to Mr. Long the professed owner. He stated since my company had a couple offices in Tulsa he would accept a company check and do a "gift certificate" since they didn't have gift cards. He told me they opened at 5:30 pm and just come in.
We arrived about 7pm. His first statement was "oh well I didn't mean today". Next was "I thought this would be a big company typed out check (that made a bit more sence). As the check was from the office I manage. We offered to let the check clear for a gift certificate and just come back in a few days. Next was " I have never taken a check in 7 years" (then why did he tell me he would before I showed up with my wife).
I moved here about 2 years ago from Springfield MO, and the Doe's there is excelent.
I would never return to this establishment no matter how good the food (which by the reviews I've read wasn't that good).
Spend half the money (maybe 1/3)and go to Logan's Road House on 71st. They may not have a 2 pound steak, but the service is top notch and the food has always been good.
Most importantly they don't lie to you and embarass you in front of your new wife. How appauling. If I could only give negative stars....
Avoid This place – We had a birthday celebration here with a total of 26 people. After being repeated told by the manager prior to my arrival that my headcount had to be exact, i made sure I was spot on. During our visit, I was pulled aside and told my guests were not spending enough money. They needed to spend at least $45 per person, and that I needed to encourage them to order items to-go. I refused, indicated I would cover the difference, but I felt this policy was OUTRAGEOUS. His behavior was appalling. When I told him I would make sure everyone I knew would be aware of his greedy efforts to extort money for patrons, he back-peddled, we paid our $800+ tab and left. He attempted to apply guilt indicating they had turned away patrons to fit in our group, however the entire back portion was empty. The servers were very embarrassed, and repeated apologized for his behavior. Don't waste your time or money tulsa....there are better steaks to be had! Seems the behavior is par for this gentleman's course.
Disappointing – We ate here a few weeks ago because we had heard good things about the steaks and tamales. The tamales were excellent, and the steaks were good, albeit overpriced. The service was poor and the salad was terrible. All things considered, I do not recommend this place because it is overpriced, overrated, and the service is poor at times. A big disappointment!
Going downhill quickly... – My boyfriend and I had eaten here a few times last December and it was great. He took me there for my birthday Saturday night and we had quite a different experience than in the past. First of all, they took Ranch off the list of available salad dressings. Who in their right mind takes the most popular salad dressing OFF the menu? Stupid. Not that the salads are that great to begin with--very small, bagged lettuce and some tomatoes. No croutons or anything to spice it up. But we don't go for the salads. Anyway, we received our meals and I noticed that my french fries didn't even look cooked. So I sent them back right away and they were replaced with red potatoes. Much better. Our meals were good, but I do need to complain about how we were charged. For two steaks and four beers, our bill was over $100. We couldn't figure out why because it just didn't add up. We asked the waitress for an itemized bill, we were told they do things the traditional way and couldn't provide a print out. Interesting. Then the manager comes over and tries to explain it to us, but it still didn't add up OR make sense. She blamed it on the recently increased liquor tax. Please. That doesn't add up to a $20 mystery and she couldn't explain it, just said this is how it is. So we paid the bill and left. Won't be going back and will make sure we share our story with others wanting to go there. Mahogany's is much better and well worth the money, unlike Doe's.
Disappointment – As a first timer to Doe's I had high expectations for an establishment
that has a reputation for specializing in steak. It had been a while
since I had enjoyed a thick, delicious, steak, and it will be a while
longer after my trip to Doe's. I was seriously disappointed in the
quality of steak that I received, it being dry and overcooked. The
service was a bit better but make sure a snack is had before you
attend Doe's, if you come on an empty stomach you're likely to fall
over from hunger by the time you receive your overcooked food. Unless
that is you order a salad, but I would save my money and poor one from
a bag at home. For me Doe's was an experience that I will not soon
Poor service and rude owner! I predict this restaurant won't last much longer. – Last night I had the unfortunate experience of dining at Doe's. I should have known the experience was not going to go well when the man seating us apologized regarding the server we were getting. We were a party of 8 with reservations. Although the restaurant was large, there were only 2 other tables finishing dinners near us so the place wasn't busy.
The service was slow! When ordering from the limited menu (steak or shrimp) we found that small portions (1.5 pounds) of many cuts were 'out'. What? This is a steak house. And you pretty much just serve steak. Right? Well, 15 minutes after our order was taken our server returned to tell some people their steaks were gone & they had to reorder. Our water glasses were empty for quite some time until a kind bus boy refilled them at my request. Some time later our salads came & were served to the wrong people but we just traded with each other.
By this time I went to inquire about our service because I assumed this wasn't typical. I found a female hostess who listened politely while the owner of the restaurant followed me to the table. I was very disturbed to see our steaks had now been served and again several to the wrong people but we traded. When I expressed my disatisfaction to the owner about the salads finally arriving only to be followed immediately by the entree he literally said, "You don't come here for the salads anyway." Turns out I won't going there again for anything! He stood & looked on angrily for a minute before walking away. Several minutes later our sides finally arrived.
After eating my steak I was so disgusted that I wanted a word with him in private. Unfortunately, he wanted to include our server in the conversation which was very unprofessional. The owner rudely told me that we made reservations 1 hour in advance & they did the best they could under the circumstances. They should have declined our reservation. He then apologized without a trace of sincerity.
